10 COVID-friendly things to do while visiting Paris

Over 1 year has passed since the start of the pandemic and I think we can all agree that it has not been easy for anyone. But some good news is on the horizon! This summer, fully vaccinated people will be able to travel to certain areas of Europe but will still need to take the same precautions as before: keeping their distance, handwashing, and wearing a mask. Even having to follow these rules, I know I am not the only one doing a happy dance about traveling soon! Bring on the long-haul flights, running to gates, and the excitement of discovering a whole new world. So if you are as ready as I am, allow me to help you get some planning out of the way – keeping your safety and happiness in mind. Here is a list of ten COVID-friendly things to do while visiting Paris. Most are outdoors, socially distanced and the others provide all the safety precautions needed while traveling in Paris.

1. 1/2 Day French Market Cooking Classes in Paris

The best part about traveling is obviously all the new food you get to try! But what is even better than that is learning how to make it, enjoy it, and then be able to make it in your home country to share with others. One great thing about taking a French Market Class at Cook’n With Class, is you also get a market tour, so you are doing two activities in one. WINNING! The classes are in small groups, socially distanced, and following all of the COVID guidelines – all part of their adherence to the Paris Tourism Bureau’s Caring Attitude Program. If you are still unsure and worried but want to experience some French culture, check out the online classes from the safety of your home, or Airbnb even while in Paris.

2. Your selfie in front of the Eiffel tower

The Eiffel Tower is usually the number one landmark to see when visiting Paris and most importantly to get your picture taken in front of it. The best thing is that Paris is not lacking in those perfect spots for the perfect selfie.

3. A stroll along the Seine river

This river flows right through the heart of Paris and there are so many ways to take in all of its beauty. You can either walk along the Seine, take a bike ride, a segway tour, or even a cruise boat! However you decide to discover the Seine River, this is something you definitely can’t miss. If you are feeling so inclined, you can do like our Week in Paris participants and enjoy Paris Along the Seine with Sight Seeker’s Delight. As you stroll along the Seine, you’ll be able to see the Eiffel tower, Notre Dame, The Louvre, and my favorite Pont Des Arts. While you can’t declare your love by chaining a lock to the bridge any longer, you can still enjoy the views it has to offer.

4. Jardin du Luxembourg

If you are looking for a little relaxation from all the walking you have been doing in Paris, then the Luxembourg Gardens are a place for you to have a nice little rest. Not only is it a beautiful garden in which to relax but there is so much history here as well. You can see the beautiful palace, statues, sail wooden boats in the pond, and have a seat in the famous green chairs found all around the park. Be sure not to forget your picnic basket!
P.S. If you are all about that picnic life, be sure to check out this blog for the best picnic spots throughout Paris.

5. Jardin des Tuileries

The Jardin des Tuileries is a wonderful place to visit if you are looking for gardens to explore. This garden also has a ferris wheel from the months of March to May with a view of the Eiffel Tower. If you are looking for other great views in Paris click here.
Another fun activity the Jardin des Tuileries has to offer is a game of pétanque! Pétanque – explained in its simplest terms is similar to bocce ball, is a fun game to play where you try to get the heavier ball closer to the smaller ball on the other side. A great game for competitive families!

6. Parc des Buttes-Chaumont

Wanting to find an escape out of the hustle and bustle? Parc des Buttes-Chaumont is the place to go then! This park is full of ancient trees, meadows, peaceful streams, and a castle on top of the hill with a view of the entire park. This beautiful, green park is just the place you will want to be after a day in the busy city. While you’re there, be sure to check out the wonderful Rosa Bonheur, for a drink, for the ambiance, and for the music.

7. Canal cruises on the Seine River

Tired of walking but haven’t seen all the places on your list yet? A canal cruise is great for seeing most of the famous landmarks Paris has to offer! Canal rides can last from 1.5-2.5 hours and you can find some that only have up to 5 people on the boat. The Marin D’eau Douce, offers canal cruises of up to five people, and the best part? They offer refreshments, including French charcuterie, cheese, salads, and tapas! Canal cruises are very informative, relaxing, and an easy way to view the city.

8. Paris Plages (in summer)

Every summer these temporary beaches pop up along the Seine River in Paris. This artificial beach is a wonderful place to come during the hot summer. If you have done everything on your checklist around Paris, then you can have a seat, enjoy some ice cream with the kids, do some people watching and have a swim in the pools FOR FREE! What an excellent way to end your trip. Be sure to double-check at the Paris Tourist Office that it will be open this summer.

9. Jardin d’acclimatation

Now this one is for the younger and even older kids! And it already made our list of 10 exciting things to do in Paris with kids. It has a garden but this amusement park has so much to offer. Don’t be shy, the French market is a great place to pick up fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables and to learn about France and Paris specifically. We are what we eat and the Parisians love to eat. There are market streets such as rue Cler, rue Mouffetard, & rue du Poteau as well as weekly or bi-weekly markets like the Marché d’Aligre. Every arrondissement has its market and every Parisian has his or her favorite. This was one of the rare things that just had to stay open during the various COVID lockdowns. There are plenty of good reasons to explore a French market. So grab your fresh fruit, vegetables, and even ready-to-go meals and take a real bite out of Paris.

On your next trip to Paris, book one of our French Cooking Classes and discover the great taste of France and French food culture. Book a class!
