Paris New Year: What to Expect in Food & Drink 2019
If you don’t pay attention, a year can fly by in Paris. The most beautiful city in the world is also one of the most gastronomic- with a booming coffee, craft beer, wine, and all around the culinary scene. On any given day Parisians have their pick of restaurant and café openings as well as food and drink events. It may seem intimidating to keep up with everything that’s new, but that’s where we come in to help. So, here are some newly opened and soon to be launched places and projects that you’ll want to add to your list of things to do in 2019!
Le Saint Sebastien & Goguette
The last few months of 2018 saw a flurry of new restaurant openings. Opened in October of 2018, Le Saint Sébastien embodies seasonal cuisine (hello winter menu of cabbages and rutabaga) with a few comfort food touches (chicken wings, tarte aux pommes) in a welcoming environment typical of the French bistros we love so well. The beautiful presentation and friendly service make this a great spot to gather with friends in the new year. Also opened in October, Goguette is quickly becoming an industry hangout thanks to its laid-back vibe, hearty meals and a great selection of wine.
2. Double Dragon
Another member of the rentrée Culinaire 2018 team is Double Dragon, though it’s not the first restaurant opening for the Levha sisters, who are behind both Le Servan and this no-reservations hotspot for Asian cuisine. Here the Franco-Filipina sisters bring together the craft of French cuisine with their love of Asia specialties. You won’t want to miss the crispy wontons and sweet and sour chicken washed down with a refreshing glass of natural wine.
3. Clown Bar, Jones, & Mozaic
The early months of 2019 are promising more exciting additions to Paris’ culinary scene. The chef who changed Clown Bar from a bar/restaurant to a destination, Taku Sekine, will be reopening 19th arrondissement Chinese restaurant Le Cheval d’Or with his business partner Florent Ciccoli (Jones) early in the year.
Craft beer lovers will be excited to learn that January 2019 will bring with it a brand new bottle shop/bistro. Located in the Miromesnil neighborhood of Paris, Mozaic will be a trailblazer of great beer in the 8th arrondissement. The new beer geek address promises to offer a monthly menu that features carefully selected beers paired with dishes made using locally sourced ingredients.
4. Red House
Stay awake for Sister Midnight, a bar brought to you by the team behind local hangout and cocktail bar par excellence, Red House. Scheduled to open in Pigalle in 2019, the bar promises to be full of the quality drinks and ambiance of the first bar, pinball machine TBD.
5. Girl Meets Glass
In other food news, starting January 2019 be sure to tune in to the Girl Meets Glass podcast. Hosted by Girl Meets Glass founder, Tanisha Townsend, this monthly podcast will focus on demystifying wine for the budding oenophile, one step at a time. The first season will focus on Champagne, “ from the science of bubbles and choosing the perfect glass to unexpected food pairings (like, french fries!) and more.”
6. Paris Cocktail Week, Omnivore World Tour, Paris Beer Week, & Le Centquatre
You’ll also want to make a note of the various food and drink events that are shaping up for 2019. Start off the year with another installment of Paris Cocktail Week, which takes place from January 18 to 26. Omnivore World Tour returns to Paris to share the best and brightest of a younger generation of chefs and food professionals (March 10-12). The dates for the 2019 edition of Paris Beer Week have just been announced, the 8 days of beer loving events will take place across the city from June 8 to June 16 ending in an epic Grand Final at Le Centquatre.
