As we approach this year’s halfway mark it’s a good opportunity to take the time to appreciate the best of 2017. In Paris, we’re lucky to have a great selection of new bars, cafés, and restaurants that have opened in the early months of 2017. These restaurants are bringing new flavors and fun places to meet up with friends. Here are a few favorites of the year so far:
Brutos
2017 got off to a fiery start when Brutos opened only a few days into the new year. This 11th arrondissement restaurant is owned by a Franco-Brazilian couple. They’ve introduced Parisians to wood fire grilled meat and exceptional natural wines. The mixture of specialties from Brazil and the special French touch in the cuisine makes Brutos a favorite for a filling night out among friends.
Brutos – 5 rue Général Renault, 75011 Open: Wednesday-Sunday 19:30-22:30
5 Pailles
This year has been full of diversity when it comes to the creative forces behind our favorite new eating and drinking establishments. 5 Pailles, a coffee shop run by a Franco-Turkish team is another foreign inspired newcomer to the Paris scene. The coffee (sourced from local roaster Café Lomi), is strong and the lunch and snack options accommodate all tastes. Salads and simple sandwiches are great for both vegetarians and carnivores. The subtle desserts are even better when enjoyed in the cosy hidden dining room in the back of the café. Don’t miss the Limoncello and Basil Cake.
5 Pailles – 79 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Denis, 75010 Open: Monday-Friday 9:00-19:00, Saturday-Sunday 10h-19h
Mokonuts
Dubbed the “Biggest Crush of 2017” by Le Fooding, Mokonuts has quickly become the sweetheart of the Paris dining scene. A Lebanese chef making Mediterranean inspired dishes in the kitchen. While the Japanese pastry chef serving up creative cookies that incorporate ingredients such as sesame seeds, matcha, and miso bring a whole new spectrum of flavors to Paris diners. Reservations are highly recommended as the small dining room fills up daily. If you’re in the neighborhood between meal times, enjoy the laid back and cosy vibe with a coffee or orange blossom lemonade and a hit-the-spot pastry.
Mokonuts – 5 rue Saint Bernard, 75011 Open: Monday-Friday 8:45-18:00
Greenhouse
Restaurateur Kristin Frederick will stop at no concept. After taking the city by storm with her burger serving food truck, Le Camion Qui Fume (and the subsequent brick and mortar restaurant) she went on to expand her empire to include American style Chinese food at Huabu and the California inspired clean cuisine eatery Greenhouse. Fresh, vegetable focused dishes are proposed to be eaten on site or to-go. This is a great address for healthy, quick lunch options. In a departure from American inspired fast food, Greenhouse maintains the speed in service while offering up dishes that are healthy and delicious.
Greenhouse – 22 rue Crespin du Gast, 75011 Open: Tuesday-Saturday 12:00-14:30 & 19:00-22:00
La Robe & La Mousse
Opened just in time for Paris Beer Week, this craft beer bar is a welcome addition to the Left Bank bar scene, which is lacking in places to enjoy a good bière. But La Robe & La Mousse has more than just beer to offer – In addition to serving locally brewed beers, the bar also offers a selection of natural wines and French-made spirits. As the third member of La Fine Mousse family, this Odéon neighborhood bar represents an expanded scope in craft drinking while maintaining the same great, constantly rotating, selection of craft beers.
La Robe & La Mousse – 3 rue Monsieur Le Prince, 75005 Open: Sunday-Wednesday 16h-1h & Thursday-Saturday 16h-2h
